This article will show you the power of AI prompt chains for marketers, because artificial intelligence (AI) technology has now become mainstream in the marketing world.
Most platforms – from Amazon and Google to your favorite email autoresponders – are integrating it for use by consumers. The fact that these powerhouse entities have adopted it into the fold has made AI more acceptable among those who were skeptical.

The only problem is, for those who get onboard, there’s no formal education about how to leverage it to your benefit.
What ends up happening is you hear about the many benefits to using AI, but then you try it yourself, the results fall flat (or it take a lot of extra work to achieve anything decent) and you’re unimpressed.
This is because you’re likely using broad prompts that don’t deliver exact results for you. Prompt chaining is the solution to this problem. It’s especially beneficial for online entrepreneurs who have to complete a myriad of tasks throughout their day.

With prompt chaining, you’re breaking down complex or multi-step tasks into smaller prompts that connect and build upon one another. You’ll benefit in terms of time savings as well as the improved results you get.
This is something you can create a template for and use over and over again to speed up the prompt chain process. You’ll begin with one prompt, and use the output from that within the next prompt, so AI ends up being capable of providing more accurate, detailed and impressive results.
Below, you’ll see how prompt chain commands work for a variety of marketing tasks. You can utilize this strategy and get improved output from now on when you’re creating content, researching, strategizing and handling other things on your to do list with AI as your assistant.
Four Steps to Effective Prompt Chaining

Before you can begin using prompt chain commands with your favorite AI tool, you need to grasp the basic concept of how it works. There are four primary steps involved.
Step One
Start by taking a major task and breaking it down into smaller steps.
You never want to use broad prompts like: “Write a blog post for my fitness site.”
That’s too vague and generic for AI to do a good job with. You want your content to have an impact and rank well, and this kind of basic prompt won’t do it.
Instead, think of the tasks involved in “writing a blog post for a fitness site.” You have to:
- Research current news and trends
- Come up with a topic
- Generate a good title
- Outline the blog post
- Write each section
- Optimize the content for search engine results
If you have a task and don’t know what the smaller steps would be, prompt AI with this:
“I need you to break the task of [whatever your task is] up into smaller steps. Give me a list of what needs to be done and in what order.”
Step Two
After you have the smaller steps mapped out, you’ll move on to the AI prompt chain process, which is to create a prompt for each step in your list.
So using our example, you’ll have a prompt for the research of news and trends, one for coming up with a topic, another for the title, one for the outline process, and so on.
Step Three
The third step in the prompt chain process is to use the output from each prompt as input for the next one. What you’re going to be doing in order to make the prompt chain process work is using your prompt with AI’s output from the previous prompt so that everything is connected.
An example of this might be the following:
Prompt #1:
Research the latest news and trends about the preference of using a home gym rather than signing up for a membership.
AI is going to return results about health and safety, customization and privacy, convenience and flexibility, and cost effectiveness, with details about each one. You then build off of that by connecting it to the next prompt:
Prompt #2:
Using the results from your research, give me ideas for subject matter (titles) for a blog post that align with the needs of people considering this option for themselves.
AI is going to return several options for you to choose from. These include:
- The Ultimate Guide to Building a Budget-Friendly Home Gym (money)
- From Garage to Gym: Transforming Your Space for Fitness (how to)
- The Psychological Benefits of a Private Workout: Why More People Choose Home Gyms (mindset)
- Tech-Savvy Fitness: Integrating Smart Technology into Your Home Gym (tech)
- Family Fitness: Turning Home Workouts into Family Fun Time (parenting)
- Avoiding Crowds: How Home Gyms Save Time and Boost Efficiency (time management)
Now you have a variety of ideas to choose from and you’ll select one and have AI use it for the next prompt in your chain. You’ll keep going through each task on your list where you broke down the main task into smaller ones.
Step Four
Step 4 in the prompt chain process is to review and tweak every prompt as you go, if you feel anything is needed in terms of redirection. So you might pick up from where we left off and prompt AI like this:
“I want you to outline the blog post titled: The Psychological Benefits of a Private Workout: Why More People Choose Home Gyms.”
If you see anything in the results that isn’t to your liking, you have to ask AI to make revisions per your instructions. Maybe you wanted something included that was left out, or maybe it included things you don’t feel are a good fit.
During stage 4, you must review everything with careful oversight, not just let AI run wild so you can copy and paste whatever it delivers to you. This is a problem many marketers are making in their use of AI – and it can severely sabotage your brand.
Researching Your Niche and Audience
One main task marketers have to do from time to time is revisit the profile information about their niche and target audience. A broad or generic prompt isn’t going to help you attract the right people because the competition will be too vast.
By using prompt chains for this process, you’ll be able to gain deep insight into who is interested in your topic. You’ll also be able to uncover trends, news and other details about your niche that give you a strong, competitive edge.
Start by having AI initiate a prompt chain for niche trends and preferences regarding your prospective customers. You don’t want to just prompt: “What are the trends in fitness?”
Get more specific! For example, you might ask,
“What are the current top five categories for bestselling pieces of fitness equipment in the last 90 days?”
AI might give you an answer that includes fitness trackers, yoga equipment, and cardio equipment to name a few.
Your next prompt in the chain would be to command the following:
“Based on the previous output, what are the emerging features in cardio equipment that are driving more interest and sales?”
AI might tell you that AI is being integrated in certain cardio equipment, and it’s allowing for a more personalized approach. Also, the introduction of immersive fitness like VR (virtual reality) as well as smart connections to fitness apps.
Your third prompt will build upon your niche research and you can ask something like:
“What social media discussions are there around AI fitness equipment and how do they impact consumer preferences?”
AI is going to give you a rundown of the positive and negative discussions happening.. For example, AI is like a personal trainer, capable of giving you real time feedback and motivating you.
But skeptics say there are privacy issues and it’s a burden in terms of finances and accessibility. They also don’t like relying on technology over human input and worry about being misled.
When you use prompt chains like this, it helps sculpt your overall marketing approach because you then know more about what your audience is interested in and what their concerns are.
You can do the same for a customer profile. Start by asking AI for a specific profile. Don’t just ask it to “Tell me who is interested in fitness equipment.” Too vague!
Instead, prompt it with:
“Tell me the complete customer profile of the type of person who would be a potential candidate to buy AI fitness equipment.”
That way, AI can pinpoint details, like 25-55 year old professionals, busy parents and health-conscious individuals with an above-average income. They are tech-savvy and goal-oriented and highly influenced by data.
AI also gives information about their pain points, values, media consumption, and marketing messages that resonate. You can continue the prompt chain with a new prompt like:
“Based on that output, what is the top piece of equipment with AI built in that this audience would want in their home gym?”
AI mentions that this audience loves AI-enabled strength training devices with cameras because they have built in form correction and workout recommendations that are personalized. It meets their desire for safety and guidance paired with data-driven decisions.
You can follow that up with a prompt such as:
“For those seeking the AI-enabled strength training devices with cameras, what factors influence their purchasing decisions for this particular piece of home gym equipment?”
That way, you’ll discover that they are looking for accuracy, personalization, progression tracking and analysis, and injury prevention mechanisms that are built into the machine. They also want something easy to set up and use, and they value brand reputation, reviews, and aesthetic design with space saving perks.
By understanding more about your niche and the audience you’re targeting, you can be at the forefront of your industry capitalizing on trends before the competition is even aware of it.
Creating High-Converting Lead Generation Systems
You can also use prompt chaining for your entire lead generation system. This includes the creation of both your lead magnets and landing pages, so that you are on target to effectively engage your visitors and convert them into subscribers.
Lead Magnets
You can start by creating a prompt chain for the lead magnet itself. AI can help you uncover incentives that are going to heavily implants your audience and make them view your offer as valuable, even though it's free.
So your first prompt in the chain might be:
“Tell me the top 3 concerns of people who want to lose weight, but don't want to go to a gym.”
AI is going to give you details such as their worry about maintaining motivation and sustaining their workouts, seeing results without a personal trainer, and lacking knowledge and feeling overwhelmed.
With that information, you can carry on with an additional prompt like this:
“Based on those concerns, propose three types of lead magnets that would provide value to this target audience.”
That way, you will have something that is highly relevant to those you are trying to connect with. AI is going to give you ideas such as:
- #1 - An eBook called "A Guide to Sustainable Weight Loss at Home". It will tell you what concerns you will be addressing, what type of content you will be including (such as short workouts, variety, habit building strategies, etc.).
- #2 - A video series called "The Beginner’s Guide to Effective Weight Loss Exercises at Home".
- #3 - An email freebie called "5-Day Weight Loss Challenge: No Gym Required!
Continue that prompt chain and choose one of the lead magnets before prompting AI like this:
“Outline the 5-Day Weight Loss Challenge with key information that should be included.”
Depending on which one you choose, you can carry your prompt chain through to the full creation of the free gift you will be giving your new subscribers.
Landing Pages
You can also have AI help you with the landing page by using a prompt chain for that purpose.
In fact, you can carry that on as part of the same prompt chain if you prefer. But in some cases, you might be working with a lead magnet that you have already created or perhaps purchased as private label rights content, so you'll need to give AI more information from the beginning.
For our example, we are going to pretend like we are continuing on from the creation of the lead magnet. Our first prompt in this part of the process might be:
“I am going to have you help me with the landing page for this lead magnet. Identify the main value proposition of the 5-Day Weight Loss Challenge for people who need to lose weight.”
AI will tell you that it’s getting that kickstart they need with weight loss from the comfort of their own home. You can continue the prompt like this:
“Based on that value proposition, generate 3 headlines for my landing page that target their emotional needs.”
AI will come back with headlines that are motivating and enticing. You’ll pick one and continue the prompt chain like this:
“I like the headline: No Gym? No Problem! Kickstart Your Weight Loss Journey at Home (FREE). Create a brief, yet engaging introduction paragraph for the landing page based on that concept.”
After that, and once you’ve approved the output, you will continue the prompt chain by having AI list the bullet point benefits for the landing page, as well as a call to action that works well with the headline you’ve chosen.
You can even have AI create an A/B split test version that you can try with different segmented audiences or to simply improve upon various elements within the landing page itself.
By using a prompt chain for your lead generation system, you will have a fine-tuned, highly tailored offer for your target audience that hits a home run when it comes to their own needs and interests.
The best thing is, everything you have done for your lead generation system is based on AI's ability to research current trends and needs within your niche so that you are not having to guess whether or not something is going to convert with prospective subscribers.
Optimizing Email Marketing with Prompt Chains
Prompt chaining can also be used for your email marketing tasks. This is a strategy that can be used in your business very effectively, and it helps you retain subscribers and ultimately generate higher profits because the prompt chain has tapped into the best way to deliver your message.
Many marketers fail to connect with their readers via email, primarily because the emails are not customized or personalized. They are not crafted based on demographic information, behaviors, or other strategic details that make a difference in whether or not people open your emails and click through on the links.
You may want to start your prompt chain by getting help segmenting your audience. For example, in the fitness niche, you might prompt AI like this:
“Tell me the key goals of someone who is interested in fitness based on whether they are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced fitness enthusiast.”
AI will arm you with this information: consistency and proper techniques for beginners, increased performance for intermediate subscribers, and pushing through to peak fitness and breaking through plateaus for advanced users.
Your second prompt in the chain can carry on with a specific segment of your readers. For example, you might prompt AI like this:
“Generate a welcome email for beginners who have signed up for my fitness newsletter and focus on the goals you mentioned previously.”
Once you have the initial email in place, and you have reviewed it, you can continue the prompt chain with a command like this:
“Create a follow up series of emails that guide this audience in helping them learn the basic information about fitness they need to know, with easy to understand tips.”
This is something you can continue on each week, or you can have AI develop split test versions of your emails and emails for new segments of your audience, such as fitness enthusiasts with certain health conditions or by a specific age group.
All of this prompt chaining is going to tailor the content for that audience, which is going to boost your engagement significantly. That's the beauty of email marketing anyway - the fact that you have the ability to speak directly to each individual based on their needs.
Enhancing Blog Content with AI Prompt Chains
Blogging Content
Blogging is an organic traffic method that many niche marketers use to not only bring new visitors to their site, but also showcase their knowledge and expertise. You can use prompt chaining in that process for better results.
Not only can you use it for generating ideas for content that will resonate with your audience, but you can use it for optimization, engagement, and even repurposing to get more mileage out of your ideas.
Start the blog prompt chaining process with instructions for it to generate ideas for you. Your prompt might would be something like this:
“List 15 current trends in fitness strategies right now that women are drawn to.”
This prompt is specific enough to give you information for a precise demographic, and you can then choose one of the options AI returns in its output and continue the prompt chain by asking it to:
“Create a detailed blog outline, including suggested headings and sub headings for the topic of functional fitness for women.”
Carefully go through the outline it has created for you so that you can tweak anything you want to change. Then continue the prompt chain by asking AI to:
“Expand the first section of the outline into a detailed draft, incorporating key information for this target audience.”
This is only part of your prompt chain if you want AI’s help writing the content. Sometimes, people like to have a draft to look at as they write their own content from scratch.
You can continue the prompt chain by asking AI to expand and create a draft for each of the remaining sections in the outline.
You can also prompt AI at the end of the blog post creation to optimize it for search engines and better discoverability.
After the content has been created and published on your site, don't neglect the opportunity to repurpose it into other formats on different platforms that can serve you well.
Social Media & Youtube
You can continue on from where you left off or start a new prompt chain by feeding a blog post into AI and starting a new prompt chain like this:
“Condense the attached to blog post into a series of bite sized, engaging posts I can share in my Facebook fitness group.”
You can also have AI continue repurposing with a new prompt in your chain that says:
“Create a succinct snippet that summarizes the blog post so I can share it in an email newsletter, and include a call to action where they can click through to read the complete article on my blog.”
If you want even more mileage, keep the prompt chain going and ask AI to:
“Create a script and storyboard for a 10 minute YouTube video based on the blog post. Include an introduction and outro details that invite people to visit my blog for more information about this concept.”
Using prompt chains for content is important because search engines and human visitors alike are always looking to see whether or not your content is relevant and viable to their needs.
Social Media Marketing Success with Prompt Chains
We all know that social media platforms play a significant role in organic traffic generation for niche marketers. You can use AI prompt chaining to help you brainstorm innovative ideas that compete among all of the noise your competitors are making.
It can also help you with the creation of the content itself, and in strategizing the best time and method to get more engagement and interaction with your posts.
You might want to start by having the first item in your prompt chain be a content calendar. Ask AI to:
“Generate a content calendar for the next seven days for content themed around beginner at home workouts on platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.”
When AI gives you the daily details, such as a YouTube video title, basic summary of what it's about, length, and call to action, you'll be able to look through and see if the content matches what you hope to provide your audience.
Then, you can carry on the prompt chain with something like this:
“Create the storyboard and script for the YouTube video on Day 1 and come up with accompanying content I can share on Instagram and Facebook to drive followers to the video to watch it.”
You can also add other details to your prompt chain, such as:
“Create a description for the YouTube video that includes a call to action sending people to sign up for my lead magnet offer.”
Or,
“Write an ending for my YouTube script that encourages engagement on the video to like, share or comment – but give me something more specific and interesting that converts well.”
By using prompt chaining in your social media efforts, you’ll have a well-rounded cross-platform promotional campaign for your brand that is designed to stimulate followers into engaging and converting well for you.
Maximizing Multimedia Content with Prompt Chains
It’s important that you, as a niche marketer, not rely on just one form of media to connect with and inform your audience. Consumers are no longer just digesting text online.
They have a hunger for images that educate them at a glance, videos that help them grasp subject matter more easily, and audio they can absorb on the go or while multitasking.
You can have prompt chains to help you with your multimedia tasks. You might start with a prompt like this:
“List the natural supplement ingredients people are most interested in when they want to lose weight.”
Once you have the initial information, you can continue the prompt chain and get AI to begin the multimedia content process. It will be worded like this:
“Using the ingredient of Garcinia Cambogia, generate a detailed idea for video content I can use to educate my audience about this for weight loss purposes.”
Keep the prompt chain going by having AI come up with more. For example,
“Describe an informative infographic I can use about this ingredient. Tell me the icons, text and details about the aesthetics to use.”
If you want to add another element, continue the prompt chain like this:
“Come up with a podcast episode where weight loss supplements are discussed, and Garcinia Cambogia is highlighted as one of the main options people need to know about.”
You can prompt other things in the chain, such as how to craft thumbnails, descriptions for your multimedia content, which hashtags to include, alt text to use for embedding it on your blog, and more.
By using prompt chains for your multimedia approach, you’ll have consistency across multiple platforms, and your branding will be uniform and recognizable by your intended target audience.
Strategizing and Brainstorming with AI
We’ve talked a lot about specific ways in which AI prompt chaining can help you be more creative and innovative with your niche marketing tasks. But it can also be useful in overall brainstorming and strategizing for your online business.
Niche marketing is a very competitive space and prompt chaining can be a fast way to develop precise strategies that will help you edge out the competition and cater to the needs of your customers.
Start with a prompt chain to give you a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis like this:
“List the key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for my online business specializing in helping beginners lose weight with proper gut health. Focus on things like SEO, social media, and email marketing.”
AI will come back with a great, detailed analysis about what’s good and intimidating about your chosen niche topic. For example, it’s a unique niche that fills a gap and it a growing trend.
It will cover opportunities you have on social media, via email, with collaborations, and digital product launches. The threats it identifies might be evolving trends, more competition as the topic grows, and regulations that pop up.
If you have data you can feed AI, you might continue the prompt chain with something specific like:
“Based on the results of this ad campaign, identify shortcomings and recommendations to make my gut health supplement ad convert better.”
If not, you might continue the prompt chain like this:
“Brainstorm opportunities for expanding my business to prevent the threat of it becoming an outdated trend.”
Then it gives you ideas for expanding into functional medicine, launching a health coaching business, and more.
You can have AI keep the prompt chain going with instructions like this:
“Analyze the top 3 competitors in the gut health for weight loss niche, identifying their weaknesses and strengths and any opportunities it presents to me.”
In addition to the SWOT analysis, you can rely on prompt chaining to help you brainstorm with AI. For example, you might prompt:
“Brainstorm new angles for an email marketing list catering to people interested in both weight loss and gut health.”
Results might be things about weight loss plateaus, various specific gut issues like bloating, IBS, or the connection between stress and gut health. You can keep a prompt chain going for as long as you need help until a task is complete.
Info Product Creation Made Easy
If you want to create products as an online entrepreneur, prompt chaining is a great way to achieve that goal. You can use AI prompt chains to come up with product ideas that will sell, create the content for it, and even craft the sales copy and joint venture pages for recruiting the top tier affiliates.
Your prompt chains will help ensure that your products go over well with buyers. If you want to create an info product in this manner, start with a first prompt like this:
“Identify the primary learning objectives for an eBook about managing blood pressure through exercise and nutrition.”
Then you can build upon that by prompting:
“Based on these learning objectives, generate a detailed outline for the course with chapter titles, section headings and key points.”
Continue the prompt chain by asking AI to create each chapter for you and then get it to:
“Come up with interactive elements for my course that I can supplement the course with as bonus material.”
Your on-going info development prompt chain can include prompts to come up with pay per click ads for your new course, social media promotions to drive traffic to it, and more.
When it comes to the sales copy and joint venture pages, AI will have all of the information from previous parts of the prompt chain. That means it can create the perfect headlines, storyline, bullet point benefits, and persuasive content that works in your best interest to pull off a very successful launch.
Crafting Effective Affiliate Marketing Reviews
Lastly, you can use AI prompt chaining for your work as an affiliate marketer. It’s a great tool to use for research, product selection and creating reviews that resonate with your prospective buyers.
Start with a prompt that conveys where you are in the process. Do you need ideas on what types of products to promote – where you’re starting at square one? Or do you have something picked out and you need help from that point on?
Your prompt in that case would be:
“Describe the main features of the AI-Powered Peloton Personal Strength Training Device with Built in Camera. Emphasize the benefits of these features for the user.”
You might continue the prompt by telling AI to:
“Paint a picture of an example scenario where this specific product (or feature) would be particularly useful to people who need to lose weight.”
As an affiliate, you may also want to add this type of prompt to your chain:
“Pinpoint some minor drawbacks or limitations of the product but for each one, add a solution that makes it a non-issue.”
You can even add prompts to the chain that allow you to compare the product to another top selling product and present you with a definitive advantage to getting the one you recommend.
You might even want to add bonus creation to your AI prompt chain. For example, you might say,
“Give me ideas for a bonus report I can offer to people who purchase the AI-Powered Strength Training Device through my link.”
And then have it outline and create it for you. Add to the prompt chain the instructions for it to create a bridge page if you want to send people to your bonus bridge page before linking out to the product.
Another affiliate prompt chain might be used (or in conjunction with a previous one) to give you an entire strategy for promoting your review on social media, in emails or through a collaboration with other influencers.
Prompt chaining provides you with the leverage you need to go deeper in your niche and align your marketing efforts with the needs of your audience. You’ll have the ability to refine your prompts and get the perfect outcome based on previous information you’ve gotten from prior prompts.
As you work on the strategy of prompt chaining, make sure you keep track of the prompts that work best (and in a logical order) to get the output you want. The more detailed and specific they are, the better your results will be – with more depth to satisfy your audience.
Just don’t be so complex that you limit your AI tool from being innovative. If, at any time, you need help with the prompt chain process, simply ask AI to:
“Create a prompt chain for the process of [task], breaking it down into a series of prompts to get the end result.”

Hi Suzanne,
Wow, you amazed me again! This is great information for using AI.
I think I have been actually using a form of AI prompt chains with my AI tool when I write my blogs. I prompt for a specific idea, or for a series of blogs about a certain topic, I continue to prompt based on what AI has generated.
It has really been helpful. AI has also begun to remember what my site is about and can suggest topics based on what it already remembers. It is a wonderful tool, and you have given me great ideas on how to use it better!
Again though, there are some sections in your blog that I am not ready for yet, but creating posts and using social media are great areas for me. I can benefit from this post to use AI better in those areas.
Thanks!
Scott
Hi again!
I’m so happy to hear my posts are helping you with your business. And as you learn and grow, the more advanced strategies will come into play.
And isn’t AI awesome? It just keeps getting better and better. The memory feature is so helpful.
You can also create specific chats to remember certain things and go back to that thread over and over, so you don’t have to keep prompting a new one, haha.
