  • 27 AI Split Testing Prompts for Higher Profits

There’s one simple task that top performing online marketers do that unsuccessful people don’t – split test. And today I'd like to share with you 27 AI split testing secrets for higher profits!

27 AI Split Testing Secrets for Higher Profits

The highest earners have learned that you never stop with the first round of conversions. Instead, you keep tweaking until everything is performing to the best of its ability.

This is far less work than continually abandoning things because you don’t see results. It could be one simple change that turns your revenue-generating attempts around.

And split testing isn’t just for sales copy, either. It’s used in almost every facet of online marketing, and it requires almost no effort on your part if you use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create the A/B versions for you.

You can use split testing AI prompts for your content marketing, email autoresponders, list building, sales copy, audience targeting, paid ads, SEO elements, and more. Below, you’re going to find 27 ways AI can help you start split testing your way to success online.

AI can take your requested prompts and hypothesize which variable could be lowering conversions before presenting you with an isolated tweak to test with your target audience.

You can continually use it to improve the results of all of your online marketing campaigns, reporting back with the results and letting AI craft the next logical split test based on your findings.

1. Enhancing Visual Elements

AI tools can help you optimize all your website visual elements

The visual elements on your website, which include things like:

  • images
  • icons
  • videos
  • layout
  • color scheme
  • font styles
  • sizes

... can impact the user engagement you get from visitors.

This aesthetic appeal can determine whether or not they perceive your brand in a good light and make them want to stay longer or click out quickly. You can use AI to split test these elements to see if the behavior of your visitors changes.

Throughout this guide, we’ll use the weight loss and marketing niches as our examples.

You can prompt AI like this:

“Generate two sets of navigational icons for a diet website focusing on split testing the colors. I want one that evokes a sense of health and one that’s more vibrant.”

Or, you might prompt AI like this:

“Give me two ideas for lead magnet landing page images I can split test for a digital marketing course I’m giving away and tell me what they should represent.”

With some AI tools, you can have the AI create the visual elements for you – or video, audio, etc. But with text AI tools, it can offer guidance on what to be looking for and how to change color palettes, etc.

2. Optimizing Site Navigation

Improving website engagement with AI's helpp

Site navigation is something Google and other search engines pay attention to. They want their users to have an enjoyable experience if they’re going to send them to your site.

Structuring your site with menus and proper navigation elements like links and search boxes is something AI can help you split test to ensure maximum engagement by your audience.

You can use a heat map and get data to report back to AI to help it craft ongoing split tests for this element of your business. You’ll also be able to track click-throughs on links, conversion rates, the stickiness of each page and whether people are bouncing away too soon.

So you might ask AI to help with a prompt like this:

“Give me ideas for two different designs for split testing a search box I can place on a weight loss fitness blog.”

It might give you an idea for a simple or advanced search box. Or you could split test navigation bars, one vertical, one horizontal.

In the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Tell me two variations I can split test for a digital marketing service menu structure.”

It might give you an idea for a broad category drop down menu and a second one with a single page layout that links to sections.

3. Winning Blog Headlines

Optimizing sales copy is easy with AI

Blog headlines are the first thing people see when they visit your page. It can help or hurt in terms of grabbing their interest and making them want to read the body of the blog.

AI can help you split test various elements of your blog headlines so that they perform better for you. This can include things like the wording, the placement, size, color, number of headlines within the post, etc.

AI’s job is to split test everything for you so that your target audience is not only intrigued by the headlines, but find them relevant to their needs. Headlines are often skimmed by your visitor initially and it gives them an idea of what’s covered and from what kind of approach.

For example, you might prompt AI like this:

“Give me two headlines I can split test for a low carb weight loss site where one headline emphasizes speed and the other health benefits.”

In the marketing niche, you might prompt for some sort of split test like this:

“Give me two variations of the formatting I can use on the subheadlines within my affiliate marketing blog post for a split test scenario to see which method performs best?”

AI might tell you to use a bold and italicized headline for version one, while the second version has an increased font size and color change. Then you can see which method works best for your audience and continue the split testing process from there.

4. Boosting Call to Actions

Online marketing strategies include optimized call to actions

Call to action statements can be used for many things – not just getting someone to click the buy button. They can be used to get people to download free gifts, share something on social media, like or comment on content, and even just click through and visit a site.

AI can help enrich your call to action statements so they have a better shot at converting your audience. Sometimes the wording, placement, and other elements tested to perfection can greatly improve your bottom line.

For example, you might prompt AI like this:

“Give me two versions of a call to action statement I can make to improve the chance that people will opt into my list for a free weight loss guide.”

The result might be AI telling you to split test the wording on your call to action from “Download Now” to “Get Your Free Guide Here.” Or it might tell you to put a different emphasis on things, like timing by using a CTA like this: “Lose a Pound a Day Starting Today!”

In the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create A/B versions of call to action statements for a marketing webinar sign-up page. One should use a sense of urgency while the other should emphasize the expertise and benefits they’ll get.”

5. Perfecting Form Designs

Split testing techniques with ai will help you create better optin forms

Many marketers mistakenly believe it’s their offer that matters most, but all of the individual design and other aspects combined can play a role in whether or not things convert for you.

When it comes to the design of your opt in forms, you can have AI help you split test the number of fields, what’s required versus optional, the placement of the form on your landing page, the design and more.

When you optimize the form to make it more appealing to visitors, you’ll have higher conversions. Sometimes, marketers have a form that needs to be filled out for a purchase, so this can result in direct income, too.

You can prompt AI like this:

“I have a weight loss course and I want two variations of form sign ups in terms of the number of fields they have to fill out.”

AI might tell you to split test one where you only capture the name and email address, and another where they either enter the number of pounds they need to lose, their dietary preferences, gender or age.

For variations requested when you ask AI to:

“Create two variations of form designs for a marketing newsletter sign up on a blog,”

it might tell you to have one traditional layout in a static sidebar and another version that is a floating sidebar visible as they scroll.

6. Revamping Pop-Ups

Conversion optimization is best done with AI tools

Another area where AI can assist you in split testing for successful conversions is with your pop-up options. There are different types of pop-ups, and you can also time them strategically, design them uniquely and come up with various exit intent triggers.

You can even have AI come up with two variations of what is offered in the pop-up itself, whether it’s a re-emphasis on something, a discount, freebie or something else. You want a pop-up that performs by convincing people to engage before leaving.

You might prompt AI for a weight loss pop-up split test like this:

“Give me ideas for two version of an exit-intent pop-up for a weight loss blog.”

It might provide you with one version that offers a free meal planning checklist showing up after 30 seconds on site, and a second version that triggers whenever the exit button is approached.

For the marketing niche, you might ask AI to:

“Tell me two different exit pop-up offers to present for a split test on a blog teaching organic traffic methods.”

It might tell you version one could be a free trial for an SEO tool, while version two could be an exclusive report on an SEO topic.

7. Powerful Personalization

Digital marketing tactics include personalizing emails

Personalization is an important factor in tailoring your content offers. Based on user data, AI can help you come up with different ways to personalize the content so that your audience responds better to it.

The data can be based on demographic information or on the behavior your audience takes, such as products they buy, pages they visit on your site and so on. You can have AI help you split test personalization in your emails, which is especially helpful when you have your audience segmented.

If someone has shown interest in a certain diet concept, you might prompt AI like this:

“Give me two variations of a short personalized email I can send to people who have shown interest in low carb dieting through free content, but this time present them with an opportunity to buy a course.”

Or, for the marketing niche, you might prompt it like this:

“Create an A/B personalized version of an email that helps my list of senior online entrepreneurs address their top concern, with one being an empathetic tone and the other an excited, motivational one.”

8. Mastering Email Subject Lines

Ensure your subject lines are the best converting with AI advice

Without a high-converting subject line, your emails won’t get opened, and your ability to maintain a good sender score may plummet. AI can help you split test email subject lines by testing length, wording used, personalization and even the use of emojis.

For example, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create two versions of an email with healthy eating tips where one is a longer version and one is a shorter length subject.”

You can even specify the character length if you want. Another example might be based on wording, like this:

“Create an A/B version of a subject lines that tests the wording used when presenting my email list the opportunity to sign up for a free webinar. Make one be a teaser subject line that piques curiosity and the other an urgent slant.”

For marketing niches, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create a split test version of a subject line where we’re testing the placement of the customer’s first name. It should be a subject about 3 SEO strategies they may not know.”

Or, you might prompt it like this:

“What two emojis can I split test for a subject line that says: The #1 Reasons You Fail as a Marketer?”

It might give you a face with a monocle for version one and a broken heart for version two.

9. Compelling Preheader Text

ai can help you ensure your preheader text is something your readers want to see

Preheader text is the bit of text your email recipient sees before they actually click to open the email itself. This is a very strategic part of your autoresponder, and most people don’t use it effectively.

It’s a good place to summarize what’s inside, and you can have AI help you draft two versions to split test. It builds upon the subject line you’ve created, so once you optimize that, you can work with the preheader text.

It has to be created in a concise manner, because there’s not much room to work with. AI is adept at coming up with preheader options to fuel your growth and success as an email marketer.

You might prompt AI like this:

“Create two versions of preheader text for an email that promotes a weight loss course, split testing two different approaches.”

One version might be urgency, like a limited number sold while the second version could be empathy, making them feel less alone in their journey.

For the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Write an A/B version of preheader text for a marketing agency newsletter.”

The results AI comes up with might be one where version A is personalized to make them feel as if the information inside is just for them, and the other version simply touting the value of information inside the email.

10. Innovative Email Designs

your email design can be bettered with ai help

Not only does the content of your emails matter, but the design and layout can impact the response you get to your inbox communications. AI can help you devise a split test strategy for this purpose.

You can take your email designs to the next level by split testing the layout, the images you use, the style of the font you write in, where you place your call to action and more. By sending out visually appealing emails with strategic placement of certain elements, you’ll get higher conversions and long-term retention.

For example, you might prompt AI like this:

“Design two versions of an email I’m sending to my list about a weight loss challenge for the month of January.”

AI might give you version A, with vibrant colors or a multi-column layout and version B, with a minimalist design or a single column layout.

Or, in the marketing niche, you might prompt it like this:

“Tell me two different ways I can design an email for a marketing list to promote an upcoming webinar.”

Version A that AI gives you might include some sort of graphic detailing the topics covered, while version B is text only, listing the benefits in a bullet point list instead.

11. Timing for Impact

improve your click through rates with perfect email timing

Timing is everything, and when it comes to publishing online, it can make a difference in the kind of engagement you get – whether you are publishing something on your blog, sending out an e-mail, or posting to social media platforms.

When everything is timed right, your emails will get opened more, you will experience higher click through rate, and you'll generate more organic traffic to your site. But sometimes, finding the right time to get your audience engaged can be difficult if you're not using split testing.

You want to be publishing at the peak time for your purpose and audience. AI can help you devise an optimized strategy by split testing two different options to see which works best for your customers.

Sometimes, the variance will be based on the demographics. Other times, it might be a matter of when people are most likely to be on a certain platform throughout their day. You can gather analytic data from your site and autoresponder system and feed it back to your AI tool so that it can continually create split test versions for you until you have your timing right.

So if you are in the weight loss niche, for example, you might prompt AI like this:

“If I am sending out information in an email about a new weight loss coaching program, how should I split test the timing if I am sending it to an audience of men and women over the age of 40?”

You might get results where version A is scheduled to be sent out in the morning hours of the weekday, where version B is scheduled to be sent out on a weekend evening timeline.

If you are in the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create a time based split test for publishing promotional content to TikTok if I am targeting people who are interested in marketing.”

AI might advise you to create one version that publishes during lunch hours around noon, where version B will be in the late evening after they've had time to complete their work and spend time with family, but before bedtime.

12. Targeting Demographics

ai can help you target your ads with demographic information

Demographic targeting is very important when it comes to maximizing your success online. You can have AI help you test the demographic information such as assisting you with tailored content that is based on the demographic details, behaviors, and interests of your audience.

It can even assist you in developing two different versions of lookalike audiences if you are going to be running paid ads. By split testing this information, you'll be able to tap into the exact preferences and needs of your audience, which will ultimately help with your conversion rates and the engagement levels.

For example, you can prompt AI in the weight loss niche like this:

“Create two versions of ads for Facebook that promote a weight loss program, with one version targeting women 18 to 30, and the other one targeting women over 35.”

Or, if you are in marketing, you might prompt AI like this:

“Advise me about two different Google ad campaigns where one version is targeting small business owners and the other is targeting solo online entrepreneurs and both ads are promoting a search engine optimization agency.”

split testing your bid strategy can optimize your clicks

Having a solid bid strategy is going to help you cut down on costs. You want to make sure that your paid ads are targeting the right people so that your cost per click is as low as possible.

In addition to demographic targeting, AI can assist you with developing the right bid strategy by split testing your ads in a way that helps you get the value of each click optimized.

For example, in the weight loss niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Give me advice on developing two different bid strategies for a Facebook ads campaign that promotes a weight loss course.”

AI might advise you to have one version that uses cost cap bidding, while version B experiments with value optimization bidding that is based on Facebook's algorithm. You will then take the results of the campaign back to AI afterwards and have it make adjustments to future paid ad bid strategies.

In the marketing niche, you might ask AI to:

"Help me develop two different LinkedIn ad bid strategies to promote an online marketing course."

It could develop one version that applies maximum delivery bidding, while the other version uses target cost bidding.

The different split test options that are available to you will be dependent on how each platform runs their bids and what features are available to you. You'll need to make sure AI is up to date on how the bid strategy works on whatever platform you are running ads on.

  • a headline
  • the images being used
  • your call to action statement or buttons
  • the layout of your page
  • the content within it, and more...

  • length
  • structure
  • tone
  • hierarchy of information
  • testimonials
  • bullet point benefits
  • social proof or demos
  • scarcity tactics, and more...

In the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create two different layouts for my sales letter that promotes a search engine optimization course, testing the hierarchy of information to see which performs better using the attached sections provided to you.”

ai can split test blog elements for better engagement

Many people don't take any effort in formatting their blog. This is one of the most important things you can do as a blogger. People first consume information with their eyes, before they have even read a word of your content.

Sometimes, it's a simple lack of white space that makes them bounce away from your site in an instant. You can use AI to help you split test the formatting on your blog so that it is performing to the best of its ability.

AI can assist you in formatting it so that you have short content or long content, numbered steps, information in the form of a list, the inclusion of infographics and videos, etc.

AI can even assist you in split testing your link structures. This can be both internal and external links, and both will be beneficial to your search engine optimization strategy.

This is another thing that Google and other search engines are looking at to determine whether or not your decisions will enhance the user experience, or repel them.

The goal is ultimately to get people to explore other content on your domain, or to recognize that you provide links to valuable external resources. You can have AI assist you in split testing both.

For example, you might prompt AI in the weight loss niche like this:

“For my blog post called: 7 Essential Foods for Optimal Nutrition, tell me two different ways of interlinking to content on my blog.”

It might tell you to link to other content they may enjoy at the end of the blog for version A and for version B, to intersperse links to related content throughout using anchor text that’s relevant.

If you’re in the marketing niche, you might prompt AI to do this:

“Create two versions of the attached blog post I wrote, with different variations of external link resources.”

AI might link to multiple authority resources in one version, and limit the second version to a minimal amount in version B.

19. Media Format Testing

testing one media type to another can help customer engagement

Media formats provide you with a whole host of opportunities for split testing. You can pit video against other formats, like images, audio or text – or take the same media format, like text, video and audio, and create split tested versions that are long-form and short-form.

AI can help you decide what to test based on your goals. It can help with:

For example, you might prompt AI like this in the weight loss niche:

“Create two versions of surveys to gather information from my list. Make one option one where they have to choose an answer from a list and the other an open-ended question survey where they can write their own response.”

For the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Generate an A/B version of my findings about digital marketing trends [information attached] where one is a written analysis and the other a graphic highlighting key data.”

20. Refining Content Tone

you need to find the right tone in your copy that resonates with your audience

The tone and style with which you communicate can impact your success online. It’s important to split test this element of your marketing to see what your audience responds best to.

21. Optimizing Hashtags and Keywords

split test hashtags to find which ones get the most traffic

The use of hashtags and keywords can be very important, especially when you are trying to improve the discoverability of your content in search engines as well as on social media platforms.

You can have AI help you split test the keywords and hashtags that you are using so that you get a better reach, and that your audience is more targeted with the intentions that you want them to have.

For example, in the weight loss niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create 2 versions of a hashtag list for an Instagram post that provides a healthy, low carb dessert recipe. Make sure one version targeting low carb hashtags, and the other uses more narrow healthy dessert hashtags.”

“Using the attached blog post I have written, create two versions where one is targeting broad keywords and the other is targeting long tail keywords.”

22. Pricing Strategies

use ai to determine the best pricing strategy

If there's one common question that many newbies ask seasoned marketers, it's, “How should I price my product?” For some reason, this is a sticking point for many marketers because you are putting value on what you have created, while simultaneously trying to convert your visitors with value and discounts.

There are different ways AI can help you develop an effective pricing strategy through split testing. For example, it can come up with different price points you should try, discounts you might provide to your target audience, and even ways you can bundle up offers to get better results.

Every target audience has certain sensitivities when it comes to pricing, and you may even find that customers will purchase high ticket bundles more than low priced items that they perceive to have very little value.

But you won't know unless you split test, so if you are in the weight loss niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create two promo emails for a weight loss coaching program where version A offers each session at $199.00 each, and version B prices the sessions at $249 each, with a 20% discount if they sign up early.”

Both customers are paying the same amount, but AI can help you split test which offer is going to tip the scales in your favor. They may want the discount up front, or they may respond better when they are given a coupon code and a sense of urgency to get in early.

In the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create two sales pages for a private label rights offer where version A offers the package of PLR for $27, but version B offers the package plus a bundle of additional bonus items for $47.”

23. Funnel Optimization

different versions of upsells and downsells can optimize your sales funnel

AI can also assist you with the back end and funnel optimization strategy you want to have working better for you. This includes your upsells and downsells, your cross sells, and even the optimization of your offers along with the timing of when you offer it.

All of your customers are on a journey within your funnel, and you want to achieve your goal of improving the lifetime value of your customer from their initial purchase through to the eventual time when they decide to no longer buy from you.

So if you are in the weight loss niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create two different versions of an upsell process for a weight loss coaching program that is presented as an offer after they have purchased a weight loss tracker. For version A, offer the upsell immediately on an upsell sales page, and for version B, draft an email that is sent out two days later.”

If you are in the marketing niche, you might ask AI for advice on testing your downsell strategy like this:

“I am selling an eBook that teaches digital marketing basics to newbies. Give me ideas for split testing two different downsell options if they decline my upsell video course that teaches them how to set up a WordPress blog.”

24. Persuasive Techniques

ai can help you determine which persuasive techniques work best

AI is very adept at helping you with persuasion when it comes to your marketing efforts online. There are different types of persuasion, such as:

  • FOMO (fear of missing out)
  • scarcity
  • limited time offers

And even other concepts such as:

  • hope
  • trust and authority
  • benefits
  • and power words being used...

These are all psychological triggers that can influence the behavior of your customer and get them to make a decision on whether or not they want to make a purchase or take action at that time.

For example, in the weight loss niche, you can prompt AI like this:

“Create two versions of a promo email detailing a weight loss challenge. Version one should be based on the scarcity of available spots, and version B should highlight the regret they will feel if they don't participate.”

In the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create two versions of a sales letter for my digital marketing course where each version uses A different persuasive approach. Version A should use power words like transform and unleash while version B should present a narrative of hope and future success.”

25. Clickable Graphics and Buttons

ai can give you different versions of clickable buttons on your site

Next, you can use AI to help you split test all of the various graphics and buttons that you use in your online marketing so that they convert better. These include your:

  • checkout button
  • infographics and charts
  • hover effects
  • 3D versus flat images
  • social sharing buttons
  • subscription buttons
  • images versus videos
  • minimalism versus detailed graphics
  • shape, color, size, and wording

These design elements can have an impact on whether or not people see the graphics and buttons, or if they choose to click on them. Placement matters, too. And all of this is what AI can help you split test.

For example, in the weight loss niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create two check out buttons for a weight loss course, where one button is bold and the other is more welcoming.”

In the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Design an email about my SEO course for newbies, where one has a product image and the other includes an infographic of information.”

26. Streamlined Checkout Process

use ai tools to help you create the best checkout process for your customers

You can also use AI to help you optimize the checkout process through split testing. You can use A/B versions to see how simplified your visitors prefer the process, because some will abandon their cart if it’s too complex.

Through split testing, you can test the number of steps it requires, the information needed, the payment processors, or progress indicators that show they’re almost finished.

For example, you might prompt AI like this in the weight loss niche:

“Give me ideas for two versions of a checkout process for a weight loss course where one version is simple and the other is more detailed, requiring them to create an account before buying.”

In the marketing niche, you might prompt AI like this:

“Create two checkout experiences for an SEO audit service where version A offers standard credit card options and version B includes online payment processors like Stripe and PayPal.”

27. High-Performing Retargeting

let ai help you create a new ad to retarget lost customers

Retargeting is going to help you reengage people who did not convert the first time around. This is an important thing to split test, and AI can assist you in testing different variations in your ad copy, the offers themselves, or the visuals you are using.

This is for people who have abandoned their cart and did not complete the checkout process. AI will be looking at common behavior along with your offer to see where the bottleneck is.

In the weight loss niche, you might prompt AI to:

“Create an A/B version of a retargeting campaign for people who put my diet course in their cart but didn’t check out.”

It might have version A based on the page they visited and version B  that mentions something about their demographic details and goals.

For the marketing niche, you might prompt it with:

“Create two versions of a retargeting ad campaign I can run for people who didn’t complete the purchase of a keyword tool. Give them an additional 10% off in one and a bundle of bonus reports in the other.”

Using AI to help you split test is something every marketer should be doing, even if you prefer to write all of your own content. AI can analyze data and behaviors to give you the most likely scenario for improvements in many areas of your online business.

I’m happy to hear you can use some of my ideas to help you with your own business.

As for particular prompts, I use them all, haha, depending on what I need. They’re all great, and if I need something a little different, I simply tweak them towards what I might need at the time.

I often compare it to talking to my grandchildren, lol. I make sure I’m very descriptive, telling it what I expect in it’s response. If I don’t get exactly what I’m looking for, I continue to prompt it, in the same thread, with more and more detail.

That’s how you’d get better insights!

Let me know how your experiments go!

  2. Suzanne, Wow!

This was an amazing post about utilizing AI. As I read, I put some of your prompts into my AI tool that I thought would be relevant for me. I was very surprised at the response! I feel I am just touching the tip of the iceberg of how AI can help me with my blog.

This blog will be one that I will need to come back to over and over as I grow my business. Right now, only 3 or 4 of those sections are relevant to my website about entertainment and collectibles.

I don’t have email campaigns yet. I don’t know that I will ever have a checkout page to buy on my site as I direct people to affiliates to purchase there. But I am sure there are ways that I can split-test the CTA to purchase items that I recommend.

    Thanks so much!

    1. Hey Scott, and thanks so much for your kind words!!

For sure only some of the prompt ideas I give are appropriate for your business, but it’s amazing how you can utilize AI for every part of your business.

Everything can be split-tested for your ultimate success, haha. You may even have things that I don’t mention, and that’s ok.

As long as you detail your prompts, you’ll get the results you’re looking for.

      Best wishes on your blog,

      Suzanne
