  • How To Master Consumer Emotions with AI

Why do you need to learn how to master consumer emotions with AI? Because as an online entrepreneur, you walk a fine line between needing to present factual, educational information that merely informs your readers - and tapping into their hidden emotions so that you can enjoy the conversions you’re after.

How To Master Consumer Emotions with AI

There are many marketers who fail to consider the feelings of their audience. Instead, they rely on their customers’ most basic desires for a solution when they’re crafting content, which is enough to generate some sales, but not live up to its full potential.

The top creators and sellers online have learned that in order to maximize the results of their content campaigns, they need to leverage Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP). This is a psychological approach to selling that integrates a consumer’s desire for a certain outcome, where you’re using certain language and patterns to relate to them.

With this approach, you’re able to gain a competitive edge and build a stronger rapport with your audience, and artificial intelligence (AI) tools have an upper hand in helping you craft your messaging in a way that converts better for you.

With access to millions of pieces of real-time data, and the ability to sort through it at lightening speed – not to mention its capabilities in terms of spotting patterns and trends – AI can transform your content from something flat an uninspiring into something that resonates deeply with your readers.

The Power of Emotionally Intelligent Content

Consumer emotions in marketing

When they’re being sold to, consumers aren’t actively thinking about their emotional state. They think they’re focused on the details of a product and the solution they need, but in the back of their mind, there’s an emotional element making them be drawn in.

But as a marketer, you can develop content that secretly plays to their emotional needs. You aren’t using this in an unethical manner, but rather to help the prospective buyer see the offer as more than practical – as something that will somehow change their life for the better.

Emotionally intelligent content is a pairing between the technical process of writing and the psychological aspect that makes the reader feel something about the facts they’re seeing.

It serves as the tipping point to turn visitors into buyers.

The great thing about artificial intelligence is that it has been trained to recognize and understand the emotions and behaviors of humans.

So even if you are not personally aware of how to leverage NLP to your advantage, an AI tool like ChatGPT can help you tailor content that drives your consumers’ decision making process.

The types of emotions that are woven into content that converts include things like:

  • excitement
  • trust
  • and even negative emotions like shame or guilt

All of these emotions can play a role in whether or not someone feels as if they need your product.

AI has the ability to look at many different platforms and social conversations. It can leverage information found in data analytics that shows patterns and trends. It can also assist you and crafting content that includes emotional triggers that not only grabs their attention but also nudges them to take the next step.

For example, it can look at how much time people spend on certain types of content and immediately understand more about what resonates with the demographic that you are targeting.

There are many scientific studies about the psychological components associated with buyer behavior, and it's been proven to show that emotionally charged content can get better results than sterile content.

When you use AI to create an NLP approach to your online strategy, you can work with it at every stage of the funnel - from making the individual aware of your brand through the stage where they have made a purchase and are now in the retention phase of your process.

Addressing Sterile Content and Consumer Needs

transform flat content into emotionally resonant messages.

When you don’t have an offline business and you’re forced to use digital content to build a bond with your customer, it can feel like you’re up against an impossible amount of competition.

One way to differentiate your brand from others is to cultivate a reaction from your audience using content that delivers emotional depth. If you’re used to publishing plain, sterile content that fails to engage readers or evoke an emotional response, you won’t find it easy to compete for sales.

There’s simply too much noise online to break through with content that lacks any sort of richness to it. While others are solely focused on search engine optimization and the use of keywords, you want to develop a comprehensive approach that not only uses a strategic and technical techniques, but one rooted in NLP as well.

The people reading your content (or viewing it) need to relate to what they’re absorbing. If you simply lay out the facts and details, it does little to make them think about what they’ll feel missing out on the benefits of your product.

AI can help you make that meaningful connection by taking ineffective content and transforming it into something that is enriched with a message that packs a punch.

It can use storytelling capabilities to construct a piece of content that balances your need to spell out the product details with your desire to form a connection with the reader.

Consumers don’t know that they need it, but it has to feel as if it’s tailored to what they’re going through...

  • It might be the desire to achieve a goal or a fear they’re harboring.
  • It may even be based on the need to eliminate some sort of pain point that has them in a state of despair.

Infusing Empathy with AI Tools

let AI add empathy to your content

The funny thing about using this strategy is that most people view AI as a tool that only generates sterile content. It lacks the human element that many people feel is needed in content in order for it to convert.

However, this is only true if you are prompting AI to write a factual article without prompting it properly to include human nuances that reflect the emotions the readers may be feeling.

You can use tools like ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini to simulate human emotions whenever you are creating content for your readers.

It has to be instructed to do this, but once you prompt it, it will be able to spot patterns in the language that it sees online so that it can weave phrases and to be included that will present a specific narrative and generate an emotional response.

Through the use of storytelling and wording the reader will find relatable, your AI tool can tap into the feelings and experiences that the reader may have.

You have to instruct the AI about what type of emotion or tone your content needs to have.

For example, if you want it to motivate your audience or inspire them, you can instruct AI to use NLP and help you tweak your content so that it causes your readers to have an emotional reaction.

While others are baffled by the output of artificial intelligence tools and how they lack any type of emotional depth, you'll be using your role to oversee and guide the AI tool in a way that unleashes its ability to bring a human like element into your content.

In the end, you will have content that feels authentic to your readers because you have taken time to add the feelings you hope to elicit.

Never have a hands-off approach during the content creation process, but instead have oversight as you use AI to help you achieve your goal of higher conversions.

Transforming Sales Copy with Emotional Triggers

Sales Copy with Emotional Triggers

Because you’re most concerned about conversions, let’s start with the sales copy and work our way back towards the other elements that will funnel people to this page. You want your copy to be capable of high conversions prior to sending people there.

You can use AI to apply the concept of NLP to your copywriting strategy so that the emotional needs of your audience are aligned with the value of your product that’s being presented to them.

You can have AI map out the emotions that are likely to be best associated with your type of product (or service). Then it can suggest (or handle) the best way to weave the emotional trigger points throughout your sales letter.

What AI will do when you give it those instructions is look at the massive amount of data it has access to and analyze it to figure out what your readers will feel is most important to them on a personal level.

When it comes back to you with the NLP strategy mapped out, you can have it alter existing copy or write from scratch. Your new copy should include the emotional triggers to draw the reader in, but it will shine a light on your offer as the ultimate solution that will transform their life in some way.

The way AI does this is by:

  • Identifying and using certain power words or persuasive text.
  • It will know which questions to use as headlines to get your reader thinking.
  • It can even suggest which logical order everything needs to be presented on the page so that the structure leads the reader from one logical emotion to the next.

Headlines

Starting with the headlines, your AI tool can set the tone immediately for what the reader should expect to feel. It can give you options to choose from.

For example, if you have a weight loss product, it might evoke an emotion of frustration, despair, or hope.

If you’re in online marketing, it could present you with an emotional headline that is rooted in empowerment, confidence, or jealousy. All of these are designed to align with how the reader is feeling or how they want to feel.

Bullet Points

It can do the same with your bullet point benefits, touching on the emotions they feel when thinking about pain points and goals.

Your storyline throughout the sales letter will be using NLP techniques that AI applies to draw readers in deeper and make them feel connected to you based on their demographic and psychographic factors.

Call To Actions

Your call to action statement will be based on the culmination of emotions woven throughout the sales letter, suggesting they take action.

AI will know exactly how this particular audience will react to strongly worded suggestions of action-taking, whether they need it to be motivational or no-nonsense.

Guarantees & Scarcity

You can even pair AI and NLP tactics to craft your guarantee and scarcity measures so that they have the most impact.

It can choose language that makes them trust you and commit to the process.

Split Testing

You can also use AI in a split testing role to craft two different versions of an NLP-style sales letter to see which emotional trigger is stronger for your audience.

In the end, your readers should view the page not as a sales letter, but as a page that’s practically reading their mind – immediately persuading them to convert into a buyer.

Revamping Blogs for Reader Connection

enhance your old blog content with AI

For many online entrepreneurs, their blog is one of the first introductions to their brand that consumers will see. This is especially true if you are using search engine optimization as a way to bring awareness to your products.

But many people fail to create blogs that are interesting enough to rise to the top of the search engine results pages. It's not enough to simply use the right keywords and structure your blog appropriately for search bots.

You have to engage readers and one of the best ways you can do that is by using a combination of artificial intelligence and NLP capabilities to ensure that your readers become loyal followers and subscribers.

One thing AI can do to help you in this regard is to not only help you enhance your blog content, so that it reads in a way that includes emotional triggers for your audience, but also use reader sentiment as a tool to tailor your blog to their needs.

If you have comments enabled on your blog posts, and you have social media sharing buttons, AI can use the analytics that are built into your site so it can see which posts are being well received with shares, likes, and comments.

When it has that information, it will know what your audience responds well to so that other posts can use an emotional hook to interest readers.

You could even have it analyze a competitor’s blog if you have the same audience so that you know what types of content resonates with them and what types of emotional hooks they find the most relatable.

Keep in mind that you don't want to have a blog full of emotional content that lacks substance. Your customers are still coming there because they want valuable information that they can apply to their lives.

But there are certain strategies you can use, such as including specific emotional power words in headlines or elsewhere to keep the reader engaged from the very beginning through to the end of your post.

Creating Emotionally-Charged Emails

let ai help you write emotionally charged emails

If there's ever a place in online business where emotions are meant to be used in content, it's with email marketing. For most consumers, they will receive your emails as if they are a personal communication between yourself and them.

Very rarely do they look at it as a mass email that is sent out to a large list of subscribers. In fact, you will often find them replying to your emails as if you are a close friend and they are catching up with you.

With email marketing, you can use AI to apply neural linguistic programming to the way you craft your communications. You want your emails to have an emotional element to them so that it boosts your open rate and ultimately your conversions.

Segmentation

One way you can do this is by segmenting your list according to different demographics or behaviors that AI identifies for you. You can then allowing it to personalize your emails using emotional language that will resonate with each individual separately.

For example, you might have one group that is interested in making money online because they are seniors looking to alleviate financial woes and supplement their retirement – often feeling frustrated and hopeless.

That would require a different type of emotional need than if you are targeting young adults who are looking for a first career path or alternative to college and are feeling motivated and inspired to succeed.

Subject Lines

You can have AI start with your subject line and use NLP to generate content that your subscribers will find intriguing enough to open.

The wording that is used in the subject can make them feel any emotion you want, whether it's curiosity or excitement.

You never want to use a bait and switch approach where you are simply leveraging subject lines with an emotional context to get them to open an email, where the rest of the content is unengaging.

Content

The content in the body of the emails should match the tone of the subject line. You can include some of your personal stories to highlight your connection to the subscribers.

Timing

AI can even advise you on the timing and frequency of your emails based on NLP concepts as well as historical data that shows you when your readers are more likely to have a specific emotional response or when they are feeling fatigued from too much communication.

Just as it uses scarcity and a call to action in your sales copy, AI can make sure that your email use the same approach, although more subtle and fitting for a personal email than a hard-hitting sales letter.

Tailoring Social Media Posts to Emotions

ai tools can inject emotions into your social media posts

Social media posts are less rigid than sales letters and less personal than a direct email. But they still give you ample ability to showcase your information and connect to your audience by making them feel a certain way when they come across it.

AI can analyze user behavior on a variety of social media platforms. It can differentiate between how readers interact with creators on YouTube versus TikTok, from Facebook to Instagram and more.

By gathering data about how and when they interact, AI can then interpret the emotional tone and use NLP to cherry pick the best options for presenting a message on a specific platform.

Based on the goal you hope to achieve, it can tell you what kind of tone will get more people to share your content. It might be that whenever you share inspirational quotes, it causes more people to share your content, but a personal storytelling approach with heartfelt sentiments garners more comments.

Each platform has different audiences built into it. They may still be interested in the same niche topic, but the way they go about discussing it and engaging with others is unique.

People discussing pets on Facebook may use different language and sentiments than those on Instagram or TikTok

The people talking about making money online who are on LinkedIn will have an entirely different style and approach than those talking about it on Facebook.

AI will make sure that the content you produce across all of these platforms has an emotional appeal to that audience. It can even discern which time of day (or night) your audience is most likely to consume and engage with your content.

If you’re using hashtags, AI can show you which ones highlight an emotional journey.

For example, with weight loss, you might have hashtags like #TransformationTuesday that shows pride in their changes, whereas a make money online marketer might use #financialfreedom as a show of motivation and a go getter mindset.

AI can even pinpoint fellow content creators on various platforms that you can approach for a collaboration if your goal is to tap into a specific emotional element in your audience.

Enhancing Generic PLR with Emotional Depth

artificial intelligence can help enhance generic and boring PLR

If you are starting out with ready made content known as private label rights (PLR), or even AI generated content that is lacking in emotional elements, you can use AI paired with an NLP approach to make sure you are tapping into the emotional depth that your readers want to see.

The first thing you want to do is simply feed the content into an AI tool so that it can help you pinpoint where it is lacking. It may be throughout or it may just be in certain parts.

You can prompt the AI tool to make suggestions about what type of emotional impact would be appropriate for this content.

Sometimes, what it will suggest is taking an informative statement and transforming it into a storytelling piece that is more compelling for your readers. This draws them into the story where they can see how it relates to their own life.

If you have a specific story from your own life that you want AI to include in your PLR content, you can simply tell it in basic language what happened and ask it to present it in a professional way so that it hits on a particular emotion that you want your audience to feel.

For example, if you are in the weight loss niche because you have a story to share about your own success, you can tell AI about how you struggled, what you had to overcome, how you felt going through the process, and then what changed for you that allowed you to discover a path that worked.

AI can take that information and write an emotionally compelling piece that appears as if it's coming from you. Of course, this requires you to have oversight of the process to ensure that everything is factually correct about your own journey.

Or, if you are addressing a specific demographic in your niche, you might want the personalization to target the exact needs of your audience, so you can have AI create an example story based on something that may be happening to them.

Sometimes, you'll find PLR that has a lot of facts and numbers, and you can use AI with NLP strategies to shore up the data with some emotional and insightful content that further engages the audience.

Let's say you have a PLR article that gives good information about making money online, including steps and details they will need to succeed. But it may be lacking any type of empathy about how the audience is currently feeling, whether that's frustrated with past failures or motivated to succeed.

Whenever you are working with PLR, AI content or even your own writing that is lacking an emotional element, you can first present it to AI and ask what emotional undertone it feels would best connect with your audience who has the same struggles.

For example, in the weight loss niche, hope might be an emotion that many people want to feel when reading an article about achieving their weight loss goals. You can tell AI to use NLP to make the content more emotionally intelligent based on that particular feeling.

All you have to do is prompt it to infuse that particular emotion into the content and it will rewrite it to include whatever narrative will inspire and motivate your readers to either start on their journey or continue it until they achieve their goals.

Avoiding Mistakes in AI-Driven Empathy

Oversee and correct any ai driven mistakes

Not all use of AI is beneficial when you’re creating emotionally intelligent content. Things can go wrong if you’re not careful, starting with too much reliance on AI and not enough on your own human instinct.

Ai tools have their place in content development, but it’s not a complete replacement for your understanding of your niche base and what they may be feeling. AI, while it has access to a lot of data about behaviors, can’t feel anything.

It has admitted that it can get things wrong, and that includes nuances about emotions and behaviors. If you’re promoting it for emotional content, it also might make the mistake of going overboard with it.

If you’re not overseeing the process, you might end up with too much or too little emotion that ends up detracting from the overall message about your product or the information you want to impart to the reader.

You also have to be careful that when you are leveraging NLP and AI for an emotional strategy, that it sounds genuine.

It’s a robot – a machine – and what it delivers as output might sound stiff and unrealistic in some instances, so you have to read over it to ensure that it doesn’t sound like a robot wrote it.

Another concern is in making sure that when you use AI for this purpose, that it maintains a voice for your content that matches your brand.

An example of this going wrong would be if you asked it to create motivational content and it delivered something too hard-hitting that sounds like a drill sergeant rather than an empathetic, nurturing voice.

Be aware that if you’re creating long pieces of content or multiple pieces back to back, AI might do the same thing over and over again. You have to make sure it diversifies its approach and doesn’t sound repetitive in using the exact emotional trigger constantly.

As long as you’re using AI as a tool to help you rather than replace you, and you’re sensitive to the needs of your audience, you should have no problem developing an array of emotionally appealing content for your readers.

What To Expect...

  1. From this point on, if you’re pairing NLP and AI when creating or improving content, you should see your conversions grow because the emotional depth of your message will resonate with more people.
  2. The trust, excitement and loyalty your audience will feel towards your brand will be unparalleled in your niche and set a bar for others to try to achieve.
  3. You’ll be building connections that were previously missing when you stuck to the facts and failed to assure readers that you understood their emotions.

  1. Hi Suzanne,

This is a very complete article with one exception.

I expected based on the title, that you would have included sample prompts to demonstrate how AI can be used in each section.

As I said, overall a good article but it lacks usable hands-on content.

    1. Hi there, and thanks for commenting!

This article is more of a “theory” post, talking about overall strategies to keep in mind to work with consumer emotions.

I have many other articles that can help you with prompts, and they’ll show you how to “talk” to AI tools to get what you want, haha.

      Have an awesome day!
